June 21st marks the first day of summer. Where I live, the temperatures have felt summerlike for a while, hitting 100 some days and topping 90 degrees most other days. Summer is a special time of year marked by nostalgia. Remember being a kid and counting down the days until summer vacation?  It felt like freedom pulsed through the halls when that final bell rang, and we all said goodbye to teachers, homework, and school schedules for three months. Days were spent riding bikes, playing in or near water, getting sweaty and dirty, and waking up to do it again the next day. I still look forward to summer, even though I work through the summer and don’t quite have the freedom of those unstructured, relaxed days of my childhood. There are three things I look forward to in the summer:   the beach, ice cream, and breaks.

It’s no secret that my favorite home-away-from-home is the beach. I love the simplicity of sand, water, and sky coalescing in a way that only God could design. I enjoy the simple pleasures of fresh seafood in beachside restaurants. I especially enjoy ice cream at the beach! A fantastic ice cream shop with inventive and creative flavors puts me in a summertime mood. You know that mood that creeps up on you, and you feel open to surprises without reason?

Recently a friend shared this little surprise with me. Even if you saw it when it first went viral a few weeks ago, take a moment, hit play, and enjoy a humor break. If you’re as ready for summer as I am, go ahead and smile or chuckle. We all need a break from the mundane. Thanks to some creative soul at Pandemonium, this little video reminds us to open our eyes to new possibilities. Even a favorite movie set in a sultry summer vacation spot gets a facelift with humor fit for summer.
